What a joke! The Department of Ecology has fined Nichols Brothers Boat Builders $50,000 for possibly disturbing migrating salmon (“Island boat builder fined over permits,” Business Briefly, June 10). What about the salmon’s natural predators? What about state ferries and recreational boaters and cruise ships? Don’t they disturb salmon, too? Nichols Brothers has bent over backwards over the years to satisfy one imbecilic regulation after another and the government still finds a way to gaff them. I wonder how they would fare in Chicago? Can you say “Boeing”? Sure you can.
