Mukilteo is at a point in time where critical choices will have to be made by our elected representatives that will shape the character of our community for years to come. At times like this I, for one, prefer to have political representatives who are experienced, professional, realistic and decisive in the process of choosing which choices are to be made.
On Oct. 8 I attended and observed firsthand all eight candidates for the four Mukilteo Council seats on the Nov. 4 ballot. I observed a coalition of candidates challenging the incumbents on serious issues facing Mukilteo ranging from fanciful and unrealistic to positions having no substance. In fact one of these candidates was even mean, destructive and offensive, in my opinion. I applaud their right to speak their opinions in public, to seek a political office and to be heard, but what they offer is not what Mukilteo needs.
The current incumbents have brought the city to an excellent position at this time. Their efforts and contributions have resulted in the acquisition of the Mukilteo Light Station and Lighthouse Park, further enabling our community to enhance our waterfront and increase accessibility for all the citizens. Their efforts and contributions have resulted in a fiscally sound community at a time of economic stagnation. Not many communities can say that!
Their efforts and contributions have increased significantly the acreage allocated to parks while providing for responsible development in our community. In other words, they have done a great job.
These are the candidates I wish to have representing Mukilteo on the difficult choices now facing our community. Eileen Hinds, Bruce Richter, Bruce Brown and Dan Gray bring experience, realistic thinking and professionalism to the council — not idealistic solutions and political rhetoric.
