The call I had hoped would never come, came on Aug. 9. My husband, a racing official at the Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, was seriously injured while flagging a bump-to-pass race. He was hit in the right arm by track debris while throwing the white flag.
I am truly amazed at how everyone pulled together for him. Speedway officials, safety crew, racers and push truck members all came to his aid. I am most appreciative of the ER nurse who came from the stands to render aid, the Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy who comforted him, the paramedics from Monroe District 3 and Airlift Northwest. After his return home from Harborview, my husband received many calls offering any help that we might need. We are very grateful for all of the offers, best wishes, and prayers from the Speedway, Fire District 3, Fire District 1, the Cascade Push Truck Association, and Schuck’s Auto Supply in Monroe. All of the people involved in racing at the Evergreen Speedway are truly a family of caring people.
