Insensitive remark was out of line

Walking my German shepherd Wolfie down to the Everett library, we took our usual route along Colby Avenue to find that Hewitt and Colby intersection was blocked by new construction with about 15 workers ambling around.

As we approached the west side of Hewitt to cross the street (a new sidewalk was visible) a voice shouted out abruptly, “Are you blind?”

Taken aback, I quickly replied looking straight at the city road guide from my dark sunglasses: “Yes, I am! Why do you think I have this dog with me? Are you blind?” – at which he slunk away looking for the nearest manhole cover to climb into. A lady employee kindly directed us to the eastside crossing where we continued on our way.
