I am most disappointed in Jay Inslee’s announcement that he is resigning from Congress. I know that as a 1st Congressional District resident, I expected that he would represent the district for a full term. Certainly that was the understanding when he was elected and the responsibility he assumed upon taking office.
Now he is telling us that personal interest overrides his elected responsibilities and so he is dumping that baggage so he can spend all his time persuading us to vote him into new responsibilities on our behalf. I think there is something very wrong with this picture.
I do agree in this day and age, that a candidate most probably at some point needs to focus pretty heavily on a campaign, especially one for the governor. If Mr. Inslee had chosen to focus this emphasis beginning with the August congressional recess until the November election, I could concede that resigning from Congress at this point might be reasonable. What is not reasonable is to leave his constituents of the 1st Congressional District unrepresented in Congress for nearly a full year.
Shame on the congressman for putting personal ambition ahead of his elected responsibilities.
