Several stock market analysts on Channel 9 have encouraged people to invest in coal companies. Apparently, the big investment Peabody and others made in George Bush’s election is paying off big time.
Bush’s “Clean Air Act,” with no teeth and only voluntary compliance, means coal-fired energy plants can continue on their merry way, pumping out pollution into the air. Soaring profits are on the way.
I wonder if asthma sufferers and acid rain damaged forests will feel as good about the price they must pay to insure coal company profits. If only the jet stream would funnel the rotten air to Crawford, Texas, or Washington, D.C., perhaps the powers-that-be might see the light.
