After reading the May 24 paper, I could get no farther than the letter (“Seatbelt promotion: Waste of money is unconscionable”) from Enn Mikk (I do not know this person). The disgust that built over the next few minutes is totally involving! That this person should be treated so shabbily by a “civil servant” at a local Democratic legislator’s office is beyond comprehension. Although I do not share all of Mikk’s views on this matter, the aide’s treatment of the complainant – suggesting the letter writer could leave the state if unhappy with how it was being run- just turns my stomach.
This has no place in our great society. This attitude may be OK in Hayden Lake, Idaho but not here! The only honorable solution would be for this employee to be dismissed immediately (without pay) and an apology made to Mikk.
As a contributing Democrat, I plan to withhold future contributions to all local Democrats until an acceptable solution is reached. I also pledge publicly to donate $100 to the re-election campaign or to help retire debt of the elected official that steps up and does the right thing by taking the steps above. If Democrats don’t understand how democracy works, then who on earth does? To all our elected officials, keep an eye on assistants and staff.
