From the perspective of an Ahmadi Muslim, the heinous actions committed by the Iranian police against Mahsa Amini, an Iranian woman killed while in police custody, are completely and categorically condemable.
While Islam prescribes a head scarf, it in no way shape or form entitles an external force to commit such a despicable punishment against women who choose not to cover themselves.
From Iran to France women are deprived of the agency to establish their own choice in the way they dress in relation to their faith. It is not anyone’s responsibility to forcibly wrap or remove the scarf from women; rather, it is our responsibility to strive for true equality and acceptance.
