The relatively short article in the Jan. 12 Herald stating that the percentage of priests accused of sexual “misconduct” was less than 2 percent was interesting and disquieting. While I did not read that the small percentage was something to not be concerned about, it ultimately will come to that in discussion and support of the profession. Who is upset about such a small number?
Has the vow of celibacy become negotiable? I guess the argument then will be: everything else is negotiable today, why not celibacy?
It appears that the numbers were processed by one the “brothers,” and I guess “brothers” can include both any accused priest and those men outside the priesthood wanting to justify sexual predators in all walks.
Wouldn’t it be best for all, including priests, ministers, rabbis, presidents, congressmen and school teachers, to seek forgiveness and renewal of commitment to be better men (and women) instead of trying to justify immoral behavior?
