Why is the dispute about the Snohomish Senior Center and the cemetary coming up again? There has already been one lawsuit and the judge decided that since the two families involved had shown virtually no interest in the cemetery property for a long period of time, the seniors could stay right where they were.
My mother is a member of the center, and I wish the ladies who are involved in the suit could meet her and see how much belonging to this group has meant to her. When my dad died almost six years ago, my parents had moved only recently to Snohomish and knew very few people. They had always led active lives. Then my mom was left with a great big hole in her life.
My daughter found out about the center and suggested that my mom go down there, since they have a bridge group and she loves to play bridge. Well, this was only the beginning. In the last few years, she has found a whole new set of friends and she loves to go to the center activities. They go on trips, have parties each month for birthdays, hold potlucks, have an entertainment day each month, a foot clinic, a bunch of classes and lots of cards and other games. She could spend the whole week there if she wanted to. It is important for seniors to spend time together and to stay as active as they can.
I know we should show respect for the dead, but how about showing some respect for the living? The seniors deserve to have their place and stay there.
