In regard to the articles concerning the Topper Motel, I must say that I have little to no sympathy for the owner. For too long he has been profiting by creating a blight on the North Broadway landscape.
If he really was feeling the “Topper Love” he would have squared the place away a long time ago so that the people that he’s responsible for wouldn’t have to continue to live in squalor. The fact that he had non-functioning smoke detectors in a place filled with people is very telling.
As for one of the residents pictured in your coverage – she should have been removed from the premises long ago. By continuing to smoke while on oxygen she was endangering every person in that building. She was also potentially endangering the lives of the firefighters who would have to enter the building to save her.
