I watched the movie “The Passion of the Christ” the other day. I bought my tickets 10 days in advance, but was afraid I would be let down because of all the pre-release hype. For the non-believer I thought the Passion would leave people with a healthy respect for Jesus Christ as a man. He was a man’s man. No wimp could have or would have gone through what he did for principle. I know few people who are willing to lose their job for principle, let alone die for their enemy.
For the believer, it left me drained at the end of the movie. I teared up several times and twice I wanted to stand and clap. The audience seemed reverent all the way through and there was no rush for the exit at the end. I felt guilty for bringing a soda into the movie.
As a believer, I was left with this thought: We live in an age with every conceivable electronic gadget. Every intellectual resource, so many electronic srmons online it makes your head dizzy. We have Christian radio, Christian movies, Christian TV, a plethora of Christian music. We have every spiritual resource ever created since the beginning of creation itself. Yet, it still boils down to this – it still requires faith to know God, and all God wants is for us to have a personal relationship with him. He doesn’t care how many books I read or movies I see about Him (even though it may help). He cares that I love him and that I know that he loves me. It’s that simple, that powerful. Only Christ could do that. Man would have made it much more complicated.
