Regarding the Sept. 24 editorial titled “Take time to discover new downtown Everett”: My first reaction was there is no downtown Everett. However, after some thought I decided to walk the streets of Everett to see first-hand. I set the perimeters of this to be Everett Avenue on the north and Pacific Avenue on the south, Rucker on the west and Rockefeller on the east.
This is basically what I found or did not find: I found banks, stockbrokers, lawyers, restaurants, a sports store, a high-end women’s clothing store, a dry cleaner, a shoe repair shop, a barber shop, hairstylist, one stationery store and a cart selling hotdogs.
What I did not find were a pharmacy, dry goods store, a place where you could purchase a last-minute card or gift or any men’s clothing stores. I suggest that you ask the women on your staff about finding hosiery or personal hygiene items. If a man needs any tailored clothing, such as suits or sports coat, they must go to the Alderwood Mall or Seattle. If this is the highly touted downtown Everett, then you as a group should return to wherever you came from. This is not a citizen friendly downtown.
Everett – an All America City – “bah humbug.”
