I read the Saturday Associated Press article, “Obama policy to spare many youths from deportation.” It jogged my memory of my letter to the editor that was published on Sept. 6, 2011, “Obama sneaks Dream act in.” This letter incorrectly stated that Obama has enacted the Dream act by executive order. This was subsequently pointed out in another letter, “Obama did not pass ‘Dream Act.’” While Obama did not pass the Dream act at that time he did put in place a plan to do it in the future by instructing ICE to relax their efforts in deporting more than 300,000 illegal immigrants.
On Friday he did enact a major portion of the Dream act by executive order, although he made it look like it was Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s doing. This is an intentional end-run around the Constitution and Congress who failed to pass the legislation in 2010.
Although the Democrats deny it, this clearly was done for political reasons and like the gay marriage issue it was designed as a distraction because Obama cannot run on his miserable record of the last three and a half years. What I said in 2011 is still true today. “The main motive in passing this is to pander to Hispanics for their votes in his bid for re-election. Watch for more of the same during the next four months.
