I would just like to comment on the Feb. 12 letter by Debi Franklin (Sexist class: Women want to learn, not pick up teen boys”).
I too am a Silvertips season ticket holder, falling in love with the game of hockey after attending the first game in 2003! I did not find one thing offensive about the article in The Herald. What is wrong with just having a little fun? If people attended the Hockey 101 class they would have learned that women make up 42 percent of the fan base. I went to last year’s Hockey 101 and attended this year also. I learned a lot about the rules and regulations but I also got a lot of laughs throughout the event. The management was not belittling women in any way. They set up a fun, educational, enjoyable evening.
I have kids the age of the players and so I call them “my boys.” Not for one second have I thought of chasing a 16-year-old around and I can’t believe that was taken out of context. I love hockey, I love the Silvertips, I love “my boys,” winning or losing.
If she doesn’t like the way management is lightening up our lives with a little fun and laughter, I certainly feel sorry for her.
What concerns me is the “fans” who sit in the stands and belittle the players during a game (I bet most of the big mouths can’t even skate!) Don’t bring political correctness into the Silvertips management. Enjoy life, smile and have a little fun!
