I enjoyed your Aug. 19 front-page article on the birthdays of Sept. 11 (“Sept. 11 casts a cloud on birthdays and anniversaries”). I, too, share my birthday on Sept. 11. Last year was my 35th. My husband is deployed on the USS Lincoln currently in the Persian Gulf. So Sept. 11 holds a tender spot for us this year.
I will soon turn 36, and feel my birthday will never be the same. I always thought a Sept. 11 birthday was a bummer to begin with. Back home in California, it usually fell on the first day of school. As a child, I felt it was always forgotten – yet now I wish it would return to being just another ordinary day.
