The emotional bond that may exist between two humans should be of concern to no one but the two involved. It doesn’t affect national security, the economy or the environment, so what business have government or nosey religious zealots in interfering with personal relationships?
My several dictionaries define marriage generally as “a state of being married,” “a close union.” Not a word connecting with religion, God, bible, morality, etc. It’s simply a term signifying the combining of two lives, two companies, two technologies, two systems, two of anything. A marriage of two people is a legal civil contract providing for the combining of their real, financial and intellectual assets during the legal duration of the contract and distribution upon death of one or both. The state provides the contract and validates it either by appointed state official or its designee. This can all be done in a state office or, for those who want to add a religious connection, the validation only can be by a state-approved designee. The religious connection is optional and not a requirement or legal part of the contract.
They are still clinging to the disproved belief that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice rather than actually being genetic and just the way the brain is hardwired in the womb and no more selectable than natural hair color, height, etc. If their God so hates homosexuals, then why were each of them one of his miracles of birth?
If it is just the word “marriage” that is the basis for all the contention, then call it anything else but it should be legal nationally and carry exactly the same legal weight and benefits associated with being married. Forms such as records and applications would have the married check box relabeled as single. Then get over it and forget about it.TALBOT G. HINZE
