This is in response to Ray Greenwood who, in his Sept. 21 letter, labeled President Bush and his advisers a gang of fanatics, and thought we should let the United Nations handle the situation in Iraq. (“Iraq: United Nations should oust Saddam, not us”).
Let the U.N. handle it? Like they did in Rwanda where they stood by and watched horrendous slaughter? Like they handled it when Saddam kicked out their inspectors a few years ago? Come on, Saddam treats the U.N. like small children, as he should.
The U.N.’s history is pathetic. They talk a good game but are usually quite impotent when called upon to actually do something.
President Bush knows this, and unlike his predecessor, has the backbone to face some awful facts.
The fact is many in the Arab world want you and I and our children dead. They want to kill us in as gruesome a manner as possible. When the World Trade Center came down, there was dancing in the streets and wild jubilation in much of their world.
I know many of you on the left don’t want to face this sad reality, but we must face it. Thank goodness we have President Bush and Britain’s Tony Blair who said, “We have only two choices, defeat terrorism or be defeated by it.”
There are times for dialogue. This is not one of them.
