It’s about freedoms we hold dear

As I watch this country gear up for war with Iraq, I must voice my opinion on the state of affairs to date. My heart is troubled by what I see and read.

First, it must be stated that I am a Republican who is in total support of the Bush administration and it’s policies concerning Iraq and the war against terror. This country will be at war within weeks. Our commander-in-chief and his military will defeat the Butcher of Baghdad without severe casualties to the troops or the Iraqi civilians. The purpose of this war is not about oil, not about settling a score concerning his father and it is not about any of the other things that opposition has claimed.

This war is about the very existence of this great country and the freedoms that we hold dear.

I have a hard time watching the opposition in the streets. I do not understand the mentality. As a Republican, I did not vote for Clinton (both times). I did support his foreign policies when our troops were concerned. I assumed that the commander-in-chief had more information than I did, was moral and had this country’s best interests in mind when he sent troops into harm’s way. I did not protest Clinton in the streets, nor did I question his motivation for making the decisions he made. He was not the candidate I voted for, but he was the leader of my country. My politics were not a factor in determining my support.

My comfort in the days ahead is the fact that this president will do what is in this country’s best interest by protecting the people of this country, including those who oppose him. This is the oath he took when he became our president and commander-in-chief.
