I applaud the efforts of the Pinup Angels for sending care packages and pinups to the troops in Iraq and Afganistan, (front page article in Friday’s Herald). I’m sure the troops appreciated the pinups of nubile young women.
However, I take issue that the young lady is attired in what appears is the flag of the United States of America. I know this group means well, but they are in violation of The Flag Code, title 4, United States Flag Code 1. This was adopted by the U.S. Congress on June 15, 1923, with several revisions.
To check on the proper use and display of the U.S. flag, Google “The Flag Code.” It’s all there. In part, para. 8 (d) the flag should never be used wearing apparel… but always be allowed to fall free… para. (J) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume…
I would remind everyone that many people in their patriotic zeal display the flag in an improper manner. It is after all the symbol of our country. Please read the Flag Code so to be informed as to the proper handling of the flag.
