In the Aug 23 Herald’s “Thought for today,” the late Alfred E. Khan’s quote, “All life is a concatenation of ephemeralities,” reminds me of typical academic gobbledygook. This translates to “all life is a series of short experiences,” or occurrences or whatever (fill in the blank). I guess it sounded too simple for him to express it that way, but oh, so easy to understand.
His quote also reminds me of another thought I learned many years ago, “Sesquipedalian terminology obfuscates the conception.” Translation: Big or large words confuse the thought. A good reminder to practice brevity and clarity in our writing and speech.
