We agree with comments by Rep. Rick Larsen that the “Wild Sky Wilderness bill helps environment and our economy,” (guest commentary, June 28). As residents of Snohomish County we are so pleased to have a place in our own backyard to hike, fish and enjoy with our family.
We live in an area of unincorporated Snohomish County that is being intensely developed with little green space and no parks. In less than an hour, we get to enjoy the unpolluted air, water and beauty of a pristine area called the Wild Sky Wilderness.
We attended some public meetings in our area and feel that the concerns of timber companies, farmers, snowmobilers, tribes and other special interest groups have been satisfied. To set aside only 106,000 acres, free from gravel pits and clear-cut logging, is not to much to ask.
The quality of life in Snohomish County is eroding quickly from poorly planned development. The Wild Sky Wilderness is an area that can still attract tourists from other parts of the country and our economy needs tourism. We are grateful to Larsen and Sen. Patty Murray for listening to the majority of those who live in Snohomish County and working to preserve a recreational area for us.
