I would like to congratulate Mayor Ed Hansen and the Everett Public Facilities District for making the decision to go ahead with the Regional Special Events Center. Personally, I am extremely happy that the events center is being built. My 7-year-old son is just as excited because he will now have a place close to home where he can learn how to ice skate so he can play hockey. But this center is far more than just a hockey arena.
The different variations that the events center can hold are far greater than just hockey. Just try to envision school concerts, state championship basketball or wrestling, indoor graduation ceremonies that can accommodate far more than a school gymnasium, ice skating, youth hockey, concerts, plays, indoor rodeos, trade shows and community events all in our own city.
The location is prime. Traffic and parking will always be an issue regardless of it being built there or not. Everett is not being destroyed. Everett is being re-built. Buildings, shops and neat stores may be replaced, but at least they are being replaced with our community in mind. They aren’t being replaced with another strip club or dance club. They are being replaced with an events center that will bring our community closer together and our local businesses more money.
