This is in regard to the recent letters about the death penalty. The death penalty is not for revenge, it is for the protection of the public.
Life in prison without parole will serve the same purpose if applied. If not applied, the murderer may be released from prison. They may also inflict cruel and unusual punishment on another innocent victim. Justice was not served and the public was not protected.
The public votes for, pays for and deserves this protection. The death penalty is not the issue, releasing them from prison so they can re-offend is the issue.
