On Jan. 14, according to an article by Herald writer Diana Hefley, “Most school districts in Snohomish County will be idle, shutting down classes while teachers attend the rally” (Jan. 7 news article “Parent wants to rally others”). The rally is made possible by yet another illegal strike called by the Washington Education Association under the direction of its president, Charles Hasse. And what do our elected school boards do? They shut down classes to enable these law-breakers to do their thing.
In Snohomish “The Washington Education Association has excused the 470 Snohomish teachers from the rally …” Our Snohomish School Board is so thankful that the WEA has allowed them to keep their schools open that they are going to show their support for this illegal activity by sending Superintendent Bill Mester and Assistant Superintendent Betty Robertson to attend the rally.
According to Hefley’s article, “Three statewide education organizations – the Washington Association of School Administrators, the Washington State School Directors Association and the Association of School Principals – are opposed to canceling school for the day.” But never mind, a fourth-grade teacher on leave from the Highline School District has spoken. WEA President Charles Hasse will have his way.
It’s pretty obvious who’s in charge of our public schools.
