I was saddened to read about the mischief at the mink farm in Sultan. I was disappointed to see that we still have mink farms here that cater to the fur industry. I was also bothered by the tactics used by the perpetrators to make known their disapproval.
As a vegetarian, I’m against the exploitation of animals for fashion and food, especially when healthier and economical choices are as plentiful as they are today. The devastating blow the fur industry has received this last decade has been a blessing. It’s an utterly base gesture for anyone to be wearing fur these days.
The article, “Sultan farm minks released,” on Tuesday contained a glaring irony. A woman helping to get the hapless minks back to the slaughterhouse cages fearing their death outside the farm fending for themselves commented: “I’m happy to help because these poor little things are not going to live.” Oh you compassionate thing you! And how right you are! They’re going to be electrocuted via their anuses and then skinned for their fur so some silly ignoramus can sport themselves around like a Neanderthal. You’ve been a big help ma’am. The minks, if they had a voice, would surely thank you.
