In response to Julie Muhlstein’s Wednesday column (“School supplies nothing to sniff at”), we, the members of the Jackson Elementary School PTA, truly understand that costs for school supplies could indeed hit the triple digits in some households and that shrinking school budgets in Everett and across the country are forcing parents to foot more of the cost to outfit their kids for school.
The Jackson Elementary PTA understands this so much that we have purchased all the school supplies for all our students out of our PTA budget.
We are asking each student to purchase a kit for just $5 each. Each kit includes all items needed, except backpacks, and even has the Kleenex tissue and Band-Aids.
In doing this small service, Jackson Elementary PTA is hoping that parents will worry about one less thing in these tough economic times and can get their kids off to school with what they need.
