As a life long resident of the Lake Stevens area I have always been proud of the District 8 Fire Department. I remember the days of the original volunteers and the calls coming into Mitchell’s Pharmacy in what was then the town of Lake Stevens. People ran from all sorts of businesses and residents jumped in their cars to aid and assist the members of our community.
There is no question that we have come a long ways in the past 50-plus years. Today we have three fire stations, full-time and part-paid employees, with firefighters, EMTs and paramedics and aid cars at all sites. The question is how have we accomplished so much in this community? I think the answer would have to do with the quality and integrity of the people we have elected over the years to serve in the position of fire commissioners. Dan Johnson is one of those individuals who always seem to rise to the strong leadership roles for this community.
Dan has lived in Lake Stevens for 26 years, and during this time has always been an active member of many organizations, as his son and daughter passed through the school system. Upon their graduation, Dan looked for another way to assist the community he lives in, and chose to run for fire commissioner. During his six-year term, Dan, along with the other two commissioners have accomplished many things: 16 new firefighters and paramedics, a full-time mechanic and a secretary have been hired; District 8 still does not charge for ambulance service; and all of this with not once asking for additional taxes. Dan brought his administrative and budget skills from his years as a hospital assistant administrator with him to this position and it shows.
Dan Johnson is a honest and caring individual who has this community foremost in his mind. It’s time to reflect on the accomplishments of the past six years and make the choice to retain the individuals who have moved us forward.
