The Herald article on Saturday, “State Patrol arrests judge suspected of DUI” was rather intriguing to me. I just want to make sure I have the facts straight. A person gets pulled over by a trained law enforcement officer, who feels the driver may be impaired due to drifting multiple times outside its lane with their vehicle. The person’s eyes are bloodshot and watery, their speech is slurred, and their face is flushed. Two officers state the person had a strong odor of intoxicant on their breath. The person refuses to do the field sobriety tests. But wait! The person is a judge. He’s arrested, then gets a ride home. I just want to make sure I understand this so if I ever get so incredibly stupid as to drink and drive and get pulled over I can expect the same treatment.
