You know who you are. Weekday morning commuters westbound on the Hewitt Avenue trestle (U.S. 2). You exit off the trestle to the off-ramp to Homeacres Road, just to re-enter again less than a mile later. You are probably saving three to four minutes of time by doing this. What you don’t understand is that this is one of the reasons it backs up.
Those of us who live in the Fobes Hill area also use the Homeacres Road to enter westbound U.S. 2. We are treated, because of your actions to exit the trestle, to a glaring look or tightening up of vehicles as we try to merge. I know these drivers are peeved because they see other drivers “trestle jumping” and assume we are the ones doing it.
Nobody likes the back-ups on the trestle, but it is a reality. The next time you have the urge to exit off the trestle and merge later on, fight this urge and keep the wheel straight.
