Thanks to the fellow Herald reader from Stanwood and his Sept. 8 letter to the editor, I can more clearly understand how a loyal Trump supporter thinks. In Nostradamus fashion he predicts a victorious Trump in the 2020 election. Yet, I am confident about a Trump defeat because I have faith in the intelligence of American voters. They do not think as he does.
They will not vote for Trump because Americans know that a trillion-dollar federal deficit in a nearly full-employment economy is not sustainable. Not only the Russians are coming, but also the Chinese and North Koreans. Over the Internet especially, they are trying to manipulate the viability of our elections. Experts, regardless of party affiliation, agree about this. Many Americans died while fighting against slavery and fascism. They are appalled by Trump’s lack of respect for veterans when he defends white supremacists and neo-Nazis. A vast majority of Americans, including NRA members, favor controls on ownership of military-style weapons and large ammunition clips. They know universal background checks make sense.
Most citizens who voted in 2016 chose Clinton. Perhaps the gentleman from Stanwood predicts a Trump victory because he knows that it will not be with a plurality of American votes. The Electoral College is constitutional, not democratic.
