In Monday’s Herald, reporter Lucas Velush asked readers who was right, buses or drivers? All motorists have good days and bad days, and defensive-minded drivers are alert for the good and bad in everyone, but I have a little trick that always helps me to deal with the inevitable frustration of sharing the road with a giant creature like a bus.
Let’s say, conservatively, that there are a dozen passengers on a given bus at a given time. Now imagine, as I do, that all of those folks had chosen to drive, and were alone in a vehicle, and that all of those cars are on the road in front of you instead of that one bus. It doesn’t seem as big, or slow, or nearly as much of an obstacle now does it? And it’s only one driver to do something, right or wrong, not a dozen.
Public transportation serves a valuable purpose, not the least of which is decreasing the traffic volume, not adding to it. Be more respectful of those buses, and surely, what goes around will come around.
