Being an avid walker for 17 years, covering 22,000-plus miles, I’ve seen bizarre things from drivers. Now with the cell phone rage, I’ve noticed some really bizarre things. While walking the other day, I saw a young lady pull away from the neighborhood latte stand. While stopped at a red light, I noticed she had a latte in right hand, cell phone in left hand, cigarette in her mouth and the steering wheel between her legs. I’m thinking: how can she drive safely?
I’ve noticed women flailing their arms with a cell phone in the other hand, and am left wondering who is steering her car.
Some are backing out of the driveway while talking on the phone, not even on the road yet. Can’t they make their calls before getting behind the wheel?
A few cell phone talkers are oblivious to what’s going on around them. Like they are driving too slow or tailgating, etc.
I’m not picking on only women drivers, men are just as bad, but while keeping count, I’ve noticed a lot more women are talking on cell phones than men.
Also, I’m not against cell phones, but I do want drivers to pay attention to their driving while talking on the phone.
Being a senior driver now, I really have to concentrate more. As you know, we seniors don’t drive as well as we used to. I don’t own a cell phone.
While my grandchildren were taking driver’s education training, I would remind them when you’re behind the wheel, you’re sitting on 3,000-4,000 pounds of steel and if you don’t pay attention, you can cause a lot of carnage.
Remember, driving is a privilege, not a right. Please pay attention while talking on your cell phone behind the wheel.
