I’m in my 70s, so it’s been a while since I’ve been in a classroom. I’m tired of finger-pointing, excuses, etc. Do teachers today really think the problems they have are any different from teachers in the past?
There is one difference! Today there is help available for the teacher. I was never in a class of less than 30 students. And it was a mixed bag. I’m sure there were children with learning disabilities, some were hungry, some were abused. All the things that teachers face today. But the additional staff to help wasn’t there.
I recall hearing in the last year or so someone saying, “The old methods don’t work any more.” Well, the old methods took us to the moon. We don’t even have a space program anymore. We pay Russia to take us to the space station.
