The author of the Oct. 8 letter, “Kenny’s claim raises red flag” seems to have forgotten their civics lesson and why we have three branches of government. Recall that we have Legislative, Executive and Judicial. This is so that when one of these branches is “out of control” one or both of the others can stop them.
The real problem is that people like the letter writer seem to think that the lifestyle choices they make must be enforced upon those who choose other lifestyles. Smoking marijuana, or use of any other drug for that matter, is a lifestyle choice … one as personal to anyone as their religious beliefs or sexual preferences. Would they expect to be able to tell someone which church to go to or even to believe or not believe? Do they expect to tell someone which sex they should prefer? Of course not, and (fortunately) we now have laws to support these lifestyle choices. So why do they still keep on with this “war on drugs”? Simple! It is a revenue source…
Personally, if I have a choice between someone who will choose not to prosecute marijuana (or any other drug) cases versus someone who will persecute (note I did not say prosecute) someone for their lifestyle, I will vote for the one who will let people choose their own lifestyle. Is this really the “Land of the Free” or not?
