I went to see John Kerry at the Tacoma Dome because I wasn’t among those locally chosen to attend. I figured all those people had an in with the local Democratic Party, or reps of local industry. I’m an independent. In Tacoma, if you had a ticket, you got into a privileged area with bleachers for several thousand, and standing room for many more.
Although I wound up with a ticket, I went into the outside area that was large enough for another several thousand folks. In that area, I was amazed by the cross-section of folks there. Every color of the human rainbow. Many bringing their children. Most of us had trouble seeing where the speakers were. (We were all in a parking lot.) Eventually I decided to use my ticket so I could see the speakers better. I didn’t get past the metal detectors, though, because I refused to give up a small pocket knife. Regardless. I heard what he and others had to say, and I was part of a sea of humanity that believes there is a hopeful way to relieve the oppression that the current resident of the White House has dragged us into. If you want to see Kerry, it isn’t that hard. He makes himself available. Since there are millions of us who want change, we must realize his time is precious.
