Congratulations to the mayor and city council of Everett for providing much-needed improvements to Kasch Park this past summer. Soccer teams are just starting to use the facility and all I’ve heard are rave reviews. Kasch has always had first-rate facilities – bathrooms, lights and good parking – but the fields themselves were terrible. The surface was a sandy dirt material that the city could never get to drain properly and, as a result, it was practically unplayable most of the time. When it didn’t have standing pools of water, it was a rock hard surface, putting players at risk for injuries.
This past summer, the city resurfaced the fields with Field Turf (like Husky Stadium). This has turned Kasch Park into one of the top soccer venues in the state. The use of the fields will quadruple or more, taking some of the tremendous pressure off grass fields in the area that have to accommodate the 12,000 youth soccer players in the county. Because Kasch has lights, teams can practice at night during the dark fall and winter months and the fields can hold up to a tremendous amount of use. The city and county both need to continue to develop soccer fields, but Kasch Park is a welcome and significant improvement for our kids. Bravo.
