I am somewhat puzzled as to why we will celebrate this July Fourth. Our main incentive for rebelling against the British empire was that we were being unfairly taxed.
Yet, we now have a president who is determined to relegate our economic system to one identical to that of Britain and Western Europe. By his own declaration, capitalism, which has always been directly linked to individual liberty, is inherently corrupt.
So now he is engaged in initiating legislation that will make George III’s yoke trite in comparison. Overtaxing the American people, businesses and industry, will more than cripple free enterprise. Capitalism needs to be rigorously scrutinized, not destroyed.
Hopefully, the people of Iraq will someday be able to celebrate their independence from religious tyranny. More than 4,000 American lives have been lost in that war.
Every year, in this country alone, 40,000 Americans are killed in alcohol-related vehicular accidents with little, if any, public outcry. Maybe freedom will someday be better tended in the hands of a nobler people.
