I am a teacher at Valley View Middle School. Ten years ago I invited Kristin Kelly to be a guest speaker for my students. I knew her as a subject matter expert in ways to be good stewards of our resources, and she brought to my students many ideas on how they could make a positive difference in our world.
Fast forward to 2017. We have a federal government run by climate-change deniers and non-renewable energy executives. Those of us who care about the well-being of our planet will get no help from this quarter. We must act locally, at the county and state levels.
My way of doing that is to support Kristin for Snohomish County Council. In addition to being extremely well-versed and experienced in land management, she has great ideas on preserving farms, working toward making sure that our citizens have access to affordable housing and promoting an economy in which all citizens can thrive.
In the next few years we will experience massive growth, and we need to be ready with plans on how we will accommodate this. I am impressed with Kristin’s ideas on steps we can take to take this on in ways that will preserve our values while carefully planning for growth.
