In 2011, I began my quest for a cleaner and neater Marysville, beginning with the local business community and spreading into our neighborhoods. I began with a letter to Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring, voicing concerns about the decline of properties, buildings and homes in the area.
Much to my amazement, Mayor Nehring shared my concern, and from that point on, the clean-up project took on a life of its own, and the Pride of Marysville Awards came to be.
Included in the project timeline was the Spring Clean-Up that Mayor Nehring put together. This project brought together city of Marysville employees and citizens alike, all with one goal in mind … “Clean it up!” The outcome was just great and a lot accomplished, but there is much more to do. That will happen another day, but for now, those who were nominated for awards are to be recognized and applauded for their efforts at keeping their businesses and residences in perfect order.
On July 23, Mayor Nehring presented the first Pride of Marysville Awards to two local businesses and one residential property. Windemere Realty on 8th and State was presented the Pride of Marysville Award for Business, and The Verizon Building on 3rd and State received the James Comeford Award, Mayor’s Choice Award.
Jan and Zed Long received the Pride of Marysville Residential Award. Their home, located on 9th Street, is a wonderful blend of country charm and modern design. Congratulations and thank you to the winners for showing the public the beauty and warmth that is Marysville.
Please everyone, don’t give up. Get out there, talk to your neighbors, the businesses that you frequent, and encourage them to get involved in cleaning up our city, it is not too late, we can do it. There are cookies and lemonade just waiting for you!
