I usually find your political editorials absurd, but the Aug. 28 “Hate tactics won’t win elections in this state” was actually frightening. So now you’re going to start designating some political satire as hate speech? Are you a card-carrying member of the thought police?
You wrote that acceptable political speech should be “accurate in fact and context.” What about the political cartoon right next to your editorial. (Coincidence? I think not!)
It depicted a Republican National Committee meeting in which a gourp of people with dog ears (a factual inaccuracy) are being directed by what looked like a caricature of Karl Rove (a factual inaccuracy) to get out to the media how close the names Obama/Biden are to Osama bin Laden. I hate to break it to you, but that meeting didn’t actually occur. Is that cartoon hate speech also?
You should be very carful in how far you take this tactic because threats to be sent to re-education camps won’t win elections in this state.
Please! For the sake of the First Amendment, find another line of work!
