I wonder how many readers have noticed that the newspapers in this area have printed as front page news every negative action taken against Tim Eyman and utterly failed to report the dirty tricks by the initiative opposition? True, The Herald finally mentioned it on page B8, the last page of the second section, titled “No probe into labor’s ‘dirty tricks’.” It refers to the fact that Diane McDaniel, Washington State Labor Council’s political director, e-mailed labor activists across the state suggesting that labor members ask Eyman’s Permanent Offense committee for petitions for Initiative 776, presumably only to throw them away. The purpose is to bankrupt Eyman’s organization. I don’t know if this is illegal or not, but it certainly is unethical and typical of the tactics the labor unions use when they oppose something.
My criticism is that the newspapers either did not mention the dirty tricks at all or hid them, but they couldn’t print enough of Eyman’s foolish mistake on front pages all over the local area.
We need to remember these initiatives are not about Eyman, but rather about the fact that nobody I know has saved the citizens of this state hundreds of dollars in outrageous taxes like Eyman’s initiatives. The newspaper editors and reporters never saved Washington state citizens a penny, although they are the most vociferous voices opposing I-776. They need to be more objective and fair-minded in reporting an issue. Maybe they should read Bernard Goldberg’s “Bias.”
If passed, I-776 holds the shifty politicians to their promises not to increase the car license tax above $30. This is important, because the politicians in Olympia have already started to add large fees on to the car tab tax. I-776 also ensures a re-vote on the Sound Transit multi-billion dollar boondoggle called light rail, “the train to nowhere.”
So folks, please sign the initiative to put I-776 on the ballot and say no to the labor unions selfish and unethical acts and the media’s biased reporting.
