China, like the U.S., relies heavily on coal to fuel its economy. A recent report on the BBC Web site stated, “According to official figures, 2,631 coal miners died in 1,616 mine accidents in China in 2009, down 18 percent from the previous year.”
You think this despicable lack of concern for human life and suffering in the workplace might contribute to China’s ability to undercut most of the world in manufacturing costs?
And guess what, it’s us (me included) that is empowering them by continuing to buy their shameful products. Will I have the backbone to change my ways? That is the question.
