In response to the April 30 article, “Fire boss pleads guilty to killings”: It is really sad to hear about the deaths of firefighters because of a lack of leadership, but it is uncommon for the leadership to be convicted of criminal charges. It is sad to hear that the fire boss ignored 10, not just one, safety rules of the wildland fire agency. To just throw a crew of firefighters into the wildland fire and not prepare with even simple things like knowing the weather forecast. I realize that fires are extremely dangerous and that nothing ever goes perfectly, but to just throw human lives on the front lines of the fire and not striving for their safety is unacceptable.
