Lack of respect for veterans is telling of Trump’s character

In a recent letter, a reader listed the reasons he planned to vote for Trump. It was mostly talking points lifted from Fox News. No point in addressing them, the facts can be easily found. Our recent celebration of Memorial Day brought up forgotten facts about Trump. Yes, Trump went on another pathetic posting rage on the holiday, no surprise there.

My dad and many other American heroes risked death and spent five years of their lives during WWII to serve in our military and fight to defeat Hitler. Trump has called them “suckers and losers.”

An Everett-born good friend was awarded the Silver Star for holding back the advancing Nazi troops in France, delaying them long enough for his unit to organize a counterattack, saving many American lives. He was captured and became a prisoner of war in a Nazi prison camp. Trump “likes people who didn’t get captured.”

Trump refused to visit the graves of Americans who died at Normandy and has offended Gold Star families from recent wars. He refuses to be seen with wounded veterans fearing they would “make him look bad.”

Trump admits owning the book “My New Order,” a collection of Adolf Hitler speeches,, but claims he never read it. His recent Nazi-like rants and methods of propaganda and manipulation are right out of the book.

My dad fought to defeat Hitler. Why would I vote for Trump who idolizes Hitler?
