Lake Steves school bond
Kids need new, remodeled schools
I want to encourage all Lake Stevens residents to vote yes for the Lake Stevens School District bond.
It would be a huge benefit for schools and students in the district. I have taught at Skyline Elementary for over 30 years and I will use my school as an example. Now, as an aging building, it is in need of renovation.
The bond would modernize and expand the school on its current campus. Classroom doors, a secure office reception area and other safety measures, including fencing with electronically locking gates around buildings, portable classrooms, and playgrounds, would be updated to enhance security.
A new gymnasium would provide dedicated space for both school and community use, ensuring all students have a proper facility for P.E. Currently, as the P.E. teacher for our youngest learners, I have to teach P.E. in a portable classroom. We share one space for P.E., breakfast and lunch, making scheduling a challenge.
This new gym would allow us to expand our P.E. program and run our lunch schedule simultaneously. Modern classrooms and instructional spaces would be built to support flexible learning, collaboration and technology. Students receiving special education services would have updated and expanded spaces to better meet their educational and physical needs.
Replacement of roofing, heating, ventilation, plumbing and fire protection systems would ensure the school meets current health and safety standards. The new elementary school that would be built with this bond will help balance enrollment at Skyline. A new district central kitchen would increase student meal access and offerings. Lake Stevens has a well deserved reputation for excellent schools. Please vote yes for our students and our community.
