The last three paragraphs of your lead story Friday tells us something about the County Council’s thought processes. (“County declares 164th at ultimate capacity.”) Can they really believe that higher developer fees (if enacted) will provide enough funding to pay for this totally undefined “Traffic Demand Management Program”? I’ve read a number of books on management over my time but this one has yet to make the best seller list at Barnes and Noble. Governments have tried many things to get folks out of their cars but with very little success to date.
Are we to assume that these new bus routes will take these new residents on 164th directly to their jobs at the Boeing Everett plant or to the Microsoft campus on the Eastside or even directly to downtown Seattle?
If not, is a connecting service going to provide the necessary frequency to make even the transfer look like a preferred alternative? And just how is a property developer going to push potential buyers into buying bus passes?
If this is typical of the thinking of our local politicians, we need to try a new batch, this group has already reached the heights of thinking we expect from the other Washington.
