There is a methamphetamine epidemic in Snohomish County. Several studies released by the Office of National Drug Control Policy list the I-5 corridor as a “pipeline into the Pacific Northwest” for meth. Fortunately Rep. Rick Larsen is one of the few members of Congress to step up and lead on this issue.
In 2001 Washington law enforcement seized 812 labs, and in 2002 raided an additional 1,213 labs. As the co-chair of the 100-member Congressional Caucus to Fight and Control Methamphetamine, Larsen continues to fight for local law enforcement in Congress because he understands the important work they do. Over the last two years he has brought $7 million in federal funds back to our state for the Washington State Methamphetamine Initiative. This money will help cities and counties continue to help their communities win the fight against meth.
The methamphetamine crisis is an issue where we need real leadership that can create solutions and bring attention to the problem. Rick Larsen has provided the kind of leadership needed to fix it.
