The state Legislature has passed a law to exempt themselves from our public disclosure law.
I have expressed my displeasure to my local legislators and I have asked the governor to veto the bill or at the very least to veto the part that prevents a referendum on the bill.
How the Legislature handled this was a travesty!
They ignored their deadline for non-financial bills.
They didn’t have public hearings in each house with opportunity for public input.
They enacted the bill with inexplicable haste.
They didn’t allow amendments to the bill.
They exempted themselves from obligations that every other legislative body in this state are required to follow.
There is no appeal to the courts.
They made it effective immediately in order to change the ruling against them in Superior Court that they appealed to the state Supreme Court.
They declared an emergency even though there was no emergency, preventing a referendum on the law.
If you are equally upset about what your legislators did, please contact them and ask the governor to veto the bill.
