I first read the front page story, “Probe of Reardon staff likely.” Then moved on to “3 ferries to get simple fix.” After reading about the three new ferries, I told myself, the front page story should be changed to read, “Probe of Moseley staff likely.”
Never in the history of the ferry system, has the leadership, been so weak, so poor. Assistant Secretary of Transportation David Moseley and his staff are constantly defending their decisions. You want examples: Last year the Chetzemoka had a “listing” problem. (The boat has the nickname “Ilean”). Moseley said that was the way the boat was designed. Say what?! The boat had a vibration problem, because the props had cracks when manufactured. Wrong. This boat also has “stack fires.” The engines are too large in horse power for this size boat. To fix this problem, the boat now burns 2,600 gallons of fuel each day, instead of 900 gallons.
To fix the listing problem, more weight will be added to the three boats. More weight equals more fuel.
Don’t forget the biggest problem: Mr. Moseley and staff have vertigo. Not to worry, enough money can fix anything.
